Breast eczema in pregnancy
i also have an infection on both breasts and also have leakage and ive takein antibiotics and creams and nothing seems to work i am 4 months pregnant and planing on breast feeding but i dont no what im supposed to do if the infection doesnt go away any suggestions?
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
It is not clear from your description what kind of breast infection you have. If you have eczema of both nipples, they should respond to low dose steroid creams. You should also take care to apply a light non-adhesive dressing if the skin is very raw or excoriated, to assist in healing. If the eczema persists despite treatment, you should consult a breast specialist for further evaluation.

Breast cysts
5 months ago i had a ultra sound done that showed cysts in my left breast.well i just had another ultra sound and i have4 new ones and one under my left arm and they hurt
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
It is quite common to have many small cysts in the breasts, and this forms part of fibrocystic change of the breast, which may be associated with breast tenderness. Up to 70% of women will develop cysts at some point in their lives.
If the cysts are small, they may be left alone and followed up with ultrasound. If they are larger, can be felt and are painful, the breast surgeon can insert a needle to aspirate the contents of the cyst, and this may help to relieve the pain. Sometimes the pain is due to inflammation or a haemorrhage into the cyst. You may need a biopsy if the cyst(s) look atypical or unusual or if you have risk factors for breast cancer. See a breast specialist for a discussion of your condition.

Breast abscess during breastfeeding
During the course of my 3 mth breastfeeding, i suffered mastitis 3 times. Recently, i discovered a light green discharge from my right nipple after about 5 mins of pumping the milk out of my breast. I read about breast abcess. Is this it? What should my next step be?
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
Discoloured or turbid milk may be a sign of breast abscess, especially if you have recurrent episodes of mastitis in the past. Breast abscess is usually also associated with pain over the abscess area. If the abscess is large enough there will be a painful lump that can be felt and there may also be a fever. Sometimes the turbid milk may subside after a couple of days. You should see a lactation nurse for further evaluation and consider starting on a course of antibiotics that is safe during breastfeeding. If it does not subside, you should see a breast surgeon and have an ultrasound done for further assessment.

Underarm swelling during pregnancy
I had a baby 6 months ago and when I was pregnant one under arm swelled up, my doctor said it was extra breast tisue and it would go down after I stopped breast feeding. I stopped at 10 weeks and the lump is still there, although smaller than before. It’s like fatty tisue with a lumy that moves about in the middle and sometimes painful. should I be worried about this.
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
It sounds like you may have an accessory breast over the underarm area. Accessory breasts appear during periods of hormone surge eg during puberty or pregnancy. However, they usually occur on both sides. Accessory breasts are unlikely to go away completely. Another possiblity is a swollen lymph node in the underarm area if it only occurs on one side. See an experienced breast surgeon or get an ultrasound over the underarm area to differentiate between the 2 conditions.

Bruise over areola
I just noticed a bruise today on my areola near my nipple no pain or lumps just a bruise about the size of a dime should i be worried?
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
A bruise can occur over the breast or areola area due to accidental injury or due to spontaneous bleed into a cyst, although there is usually a lump if that happens. If the bruise does not resolve after a week, even in the absence of pain or a lump, you should see a doctor to have it checked out.

“Pimple” on the breast
About 4 days ago i noticed a small red dot which resembled a pimple below my right breast. It started to get a little bigger and felt painful and sore. Currently the pain has subsided but the lump is still there. Plus my breasts tends to ache at times. Had already consulted a doctor and he said that it was probably nothing and prescribed me antibiotics. I’m at my mid twenties and i want to know if this is normal coz i have not had my mense yet this month or does it mean something else???
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
A skin epidermal or sebaceous cyst often appears like a “pimple” on the breast. It is a collection of oil or sebum within the skin layer and is harmless although sometimes it can swell up and turn red and painful when infected. When the infection subsides (with antibiotics or by itself) it will decrease in size and become less painful. Skin sebaceous cysts can occur anywhere in the body and commonly occurs in the back area and over the limbs as well. You can ask your doctor for an ultrasound over the area to confirm that the lump is from the skin and not from within the breast.

Drainage of cyst
I am actually very confused at the moment.. I have had slight swelling and firmer right breast for a month.I visited a clinic and prescribed anitbiotics for possile mastits.. I am not breastfeediong as my last child is now 6. The most painful part was about 4 days after the feeling of a lump and weird thing I had belived it may have been caused by premenstrual.. though it did go away for 3 days after the menses started, then came back not as painful right after.
Yesterday, i started feeling a funny sensation within my breast..like an unclogging or draining and now my breast has no lump or pain or swelling at all.. could have this been a cyst that had drained by itself? what would you think? .. I have no nipple discharge, I am still scheduled to have mammogram and ultrasound.
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
A breast lump that disappears spontaneously within a short time is most likely a cyst. It does sound like what you have. Cysts contain fluid and it becomes a lump that you can feel if enough fluid accumulates within it. When the fluid is reabsorbed by the surrounding tissue or when the cyst bursts, then the lump will become smaller or even disappear. However, you should still proceed to have a mammogram and ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis.

Discomfort in the breast and lump in the arm
I am 31 yrs old. Last 2 months I develop a lump on my lower outer right arm. My doc says its only a 1-cm skin cyst, nothing serious. I can skip surgery since it is not life endangering but it will be there forever if I don’t find it ugly. Should not be cancer cell. This month the cyst is completely gone! It is different from what my doc says. For a month, coincidentally my right breast feel a bit pain. No lump through self-examination. However the pain exist for 3-4 days which I am worried since the skin lesion disappear and my right breast fell uncomfortable. Now I feel muscle ache on my right upper arm as if I did too much exercise but I did not exercise at all. I do not know it is due to my hormones changes as my menses should be here within this 1-2 weeks. Is there anything to worry?
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
A skin cyst can become more prominent when it is inflammed. It can then shrink back to a small size, possibly not even felt, when the inflammation subsides. This may be what has happened to the skin cyst on your arm. It is probably not related to the breast.
The breast and upper arm discomfort can be due to hormonal changes during the premenstrual period. It should subside within a few days, especially when your menses arrives. If it persists, then you should see a breast doctor and at least have an ultrasound of the area done for further evaluation.

Bruise on breast
A small bruise has appeared, for no apparent reason on the front of my right breast. It’s quite tender but only hurts a little if I press on it. I wonder if anyone knows what might have caused this? thank you
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
The most common cause is a spontaneous haemorrhage into a pre-existing cyst in the breast. This happens when a tiny blood vessel near the cyst bursts. You may be able to feel a lump where the bruise is. It can be confirmed with an ultrasound. This is usually harmless but if the bruise, lump or tenderness does not go away in 1-2 weeks, you should see a doctor to have it checked out.
