Removal of lumps after biopsy
Hi, I am 33 yrs old with 1 lump in each of my breasts near the nipple, about 1cm wide. They have been diagnosed through needle biopsy as fibroadenoma and benign low cell yield. If I remove them through surgery, will it affect breast feeding and how long is the recovery time from surgery? Reason why I’m thinking of having them removed is because there is pain in one of my breast (the one with the fibroadenoma), especially when I experience tension. This gets me worried as the constant pulling pain can be quite bad and causes me anxiety. Also would like to know what is the most cost-effective way to have the surgery done through your hospital. Thank you.
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
If a needle biopsy has been done and the lumps have been proven to be benign, they do not need to be removed unless they are growing larger. It is unlikely that the pain you are experiencing is due to the breast lump, as it is small. Often breast pain is due to hormonal changes, and the pain may not necessarily go away even if the lump is removed. If the lumps are removed and they were very close to the nipple, it may affect successful breastfeeding in the immediate future. Surgery to remove the lumps is considered minor surgery; recovery is within one week barring complications such as wound infection or bleeding.

Discharge from breast
Hello. I recently noticed that I have a clear discharge from one breast. Also the breast is very oily. I have had a hysterectomy and I am 30 years old and have two children. What could this be? Thank you.
THE BREAST DOCTORS SAY:
It is normal to have “oily” secretions which moisturize the skin, just like in other parts of the body. Clear discharge can be due to many reasons, such as fibrocystic change, duct ectasia, papillomas or even cancer. You should see a doctor for further evaluation, including having an ultrasound examination.
